Hi, my name is Stacie Mays. Welcome to my Paws and Purrs Pet Sitting website. I decided to start a pet-sitting business in memory of my first dog, Pinatubo, who you see above. In 1991, when the volcano Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines, I was involved in the evacuation of thousands of personnel and hundreds of pets. Bo was one of the pets unable to be reunited with his owner. So I adopted him, and gave him his name. Which seemed fitting based on where he came from and the fact he was quite the volcanic puppy! He became my great friend and companion, and I was his world. He passed away on February 15, 2006, the day after he turned 15. It is in his honor that I decided to follow my passion for animals and start a pet-sitting business.
Prior to Bo, I had many cats in my life. After Bo, I could not imagine my life without a dog, so dogs I got. I am now the proud mom to four dogs; Oreo, a 15-year-old Border Collie, Shiloh, an 12-year-old Beagle, Cosmo, a 3-year-old mixed breed shelter rescue, and Monet, a 3-year-old Bichon Frise puppy mill rescue. I also have two cats, Parker, 13, and Cosette, 9.
As for me, I am a retired military veteran. After retiring in 1996, I worked in several corporate positions. However, I soon realized that I was happiest when I was around animals. So, I quit my corporate job and started working for a pet hospital. I also began to volunteer at a local animal shelter and Shiloh became a therapy dog at a local hospital. So now my world was all about animals, and I loved it! After much encouragement from several friends, and in Bo's memory, I decided to start my own pet-sitting business in 2007. It was the best decision I ever made. Bo would be proud.
Pet Sitter - the act of caring for a pet in its own home while the owner is away.
Key to this definition is "in its own home." I come to your Pet in your home, allowing your Pet to stay in a familiar, safe, and comfortable environment. This is what true pet sitting is.
While boarding facilities may be a viable option, I believe that most pets do better if allowed to stay in their own home while you are away. In my job, I have seen many Pets who have become ill, or who have developed behavior issues, as a result of being boarded. My mission is to provide your Pet with the stability, comfort, and care that they are used to having when you are at home.
With me as your pet sitter, your Pet could look this comfortable, happy, and well taken care of!
